Previously, he lead engineering for the IBM Research Accelerated Discovery Platform, he worked at on their data science platform, he worked on scalable ML with at , and he lead an engineering team at developing distributed streaming data systems using , , , and other tools. Dean is the author of several books, reports, and videos for O'Reilly Media, including , , , , and (coauthor). He is a contributor to several open source projects and a frequent conference speaker and co-organizer. Dean has a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Washington.
